On behalf of the national government, let me take this opportunity to welcome you to Solomon Islands.
After some years of difficult experiences, Solomon Islands has once again embraced itself to full economic and social stability. Thanks to private sector reforms committed by the national government and the continuous hard work of the Royal Solomon Islands Police force and RAMSI in restoring and maintaining law and order in Solomon Islands. This has improved tremendously the working mechanism of the private sector. The reopening of major foreign investment projects such as the Gold Ridge Mining and the Guadalcanal Plain Palm Oil project is a testament that investors’ confidence to do business in Solomon Islands has once again restored.
Notably and better still, Solomon Islands host abundant natural riches with dynamic investment opportunities in many sectors. In the ocean, we command one of the best tuna fishing ground in the world. Our land, second largest in the Islands Pacific region, is primed to have greater potential for any investment projects, whether in agriculture, mining, construction, forestry, tourism or any other sectors. The National Government of Solomon Islands always see foreign investors as very important partners in the development of the country's economy and encourage potential investors to utilize the many investment opportunities existed in our country. While all form of investments are welcomed, it is paramount to say that the national government give priority to investment projects that constitute to the following outcomes.
- Strengthening the technical and marketing expertise of the private sector
- Maximize the use of local raw materials in the production stages
- Production targeted to export and import substitutes
- Create employment and training to the local people.
Integrate or transfer knowledge and technology to the country's economic system.
- Create efficiency in the private sector
- Have a vision to long term investment
- Contribute enormously to the economic development of Solomon Islands
On the same note, as investors, I encourage you to seek appropriate assistance from the Government in terms of fiscal and non fiscal incentives for the growth and expansion of your investment project. Sure there are investment incentives available for any business structure whether small, medium or large in nature.
