About FID

Foreign Investment Division

The Foreign Investment Division (FID) is mandated with certain functions to encourage the growth of foreign investment in Solomon Islands. One of the division’s broad objectives is to promote and encourage foreign investment in all productive economic sectors.

FID is cognitive to the fact that economic development and growth is pivotal to improve standard of living of ordinary citizens and therefore encourages the growth of the private sector through well coordinated foreign investment activities.

The Foreign Investment Division is headed by the Director of Foreign Investment and assisted by the Deputy Director. The division is staffed by 7 public officers who are dedicated to uphold their responsibilities by assisting and addressing the needs of foreign investors in conjunction with requirements made under the foreign investment act 2005 and regulation 2006 including other relevant legislations.

The division delegates its core functions under three main units: the registry unit, the monitoring unit and the promotion unit. These units have their own define functions however worked closely to achieve the overall objective of the foreign investment division as a whole.

Mission Statement

To ensure that all form of foreign investment activities carried out in Solomon Islands are registered according to the provision made in the Foreign Investment Act 2005 and Regulation 2006, monitor the progress of approved and registered investment projects around the country and promote the growth of foreign investment into Solomon Islands.

Functions

  1. Implement the Government foreign investment policies
  2. Advice the national government on foreign investment matters affecting the country
  3. Register and issue certificate of Foreign Investment Registration to foreign investors
  4. Monitor the progress of foreign investment activities and ensure foreign investors compliance to provision made in the Foreign Investment Act 2005 and Regulation 2006 when carrying out their investment activities in Solomon Islands.
  5. Promote and encourage more foreign investment into Solomon Islands

 

Services

The Foreign Investment Division provides a full advisory role and support services for investors by

  1. Attending to investment enquiries, consultations and advice
  2. Disseminate information for investors
  3. Conduct promotion missions, seminars and tours
  4. Identify investment opportunities and prepare project profiles for joint venture or total foreign investment
  5. Receive and process investment applications
  6. Liaise with private sector and relevant government bodies in the facilitation of investment
  7. Evaluate applications for Registrar of Investment consideration
  8. Record and Register investors information
  9. Monitor the establishment of registered investment projects
  10. Ensure approved investment projects comply with the terms and conditions of their registration
  11. Assist with newly established investment projects
  12. Review investment projects
  13. Register investment activities
